Creating a New Cultural Strategy

John at Elizabeth Gardens

I have always considered it one of my main priorities to campaign to improve Salisbury to make it a more attractive place for my constituents to live and for tourists to visit.

The future prosperity of South Wiltshire depends on going beyond merely relying on our world-leading heritage sites or our retail outlets. We need to do more to harness our cultural and creative sectors to put Salisbury on the map as a destination of choice for music, theatre, cinema, and the library.

In 2018, I brought together key stakeholders from Wiltshire Council and Wiltshire Creative to help commission a new cultural strategy for Salisbury. As part of this I am pushing for a major capital investment to create a brand new cultural/creative quarter as part of the Maltings redevelopment.
